Alongside the colour works, a separate group of gold paintings explores light, reflection, and emotional resonance. Coated in metallic surfaces, these pieces change dramatically depending on their environment, mirroring the way human emotions shift in response to context and perspective.
The flowers - including roses, sunflowers, foxgloves, and anemones - appear to shimmer, glow, or recede as the viewer moves around them. This creates a dynamic, almost sculptural experience in which the painting is never fixed but continually activated by light.
Sunflowers bowing at the end of their life cycle become symbols of surrender and quiet dignity. Anemones dance playfully in illumination. Foxgloves appear to emit their own glow. The works draw inspiration from Impressionist explorations of light - particularly those of Claude Monet - while also evoking the permanence of bronze sculpture and sacred iconography.
These paintings function as mirrors as much as images. Just as a therapist reflects a client’s inner light back to them, the reflective surfaces invite viewers to see themselves within the work - to recognise beauty, resilience, and presence. As lighting conditions change throughout the day, so too does the painting, emphasising the interconnectedness between artwork, environment, and observer.
